The Garden of Life: Cultivate Your World

The Garden of Life: Cultivate Your World

“Change your thoughts, and in the twinkling of an eye, all your conditions change. Your world is a world of crystallized ideas, crystallized words. Sooner or later, you reap the fruits of your words and thoughts”

Florence Scovel Shinn

Your phone rings. It’s an unknown number. Normally, you’d let it go straight to voicemail. But this time, you answer. The voice on the other end says. “I am calling from the law office of Merriam and Associates and this call is to inform you that there is a sizable piece of land that you are now the proud owner of”.

How did this happen? Who left you land? But does any of that matter? You were given something. Ownership was transferred to you. You are now the rightful owner of this land. This land will forever be known as “The garden of your life”

You travel to visit the land. Once you arrive, there are acres and acres of uncultivated land. Land that is in its natural, wild state. It hasn’t been tilled, fertilized or prepared for raising crops.

As you continue exploring your land you come across several acres in complete disarray. It seems completely unsuitable for farming. There is massive soil erosion, land degradation, stoniness, and overgrown weeds.

Why would anyone give you uncultivated and unsuitable land? Nevertheless, the land is there, waiting to reap whatever your heart, mind, and spirit sows. This land will yield whatever you plant. No matter what. The choice is yours. You may think that the hardest part will be the tilling and the removal of stones and weeds. But the hardest part will be making the choice of what to plant. What do you want to grow in the garden of your life?

Earl Nightingale, author of The Strangest Secret explains:

Now the human mind is far more fertile, far more incredible and mysterious than the land, but it works the same way. It doesn’t care what we plant-success, failure. A concrete worthwhile goal or confusion, misunderstanding, fear, anxiety and so on, but what we plant it will return to us. You see, the human mind is the last great unexplored continent on the earth. It contains riches beyond our wildest dreams. It will return anything we want to plant.

Understand that you’ve been given a wonderful opportunity. A gift of sorts. Your life is yours to determine. And this is caused by what you plant in your mind and spirit. Will you choose to plant joy, gratitude, self-love, forgiveness, and hope? Or will you choose to plant resentment, grudges, despair, and anger? You, and you alone decide what is planted and subsequently what will be watered and fertilized. No one can come on your land and plant any seeds. Their actions may cause you to want to plant one thing or another, but ultimately you decide what you want your life to be and what you will reap.

“Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”

Galatians 6:7
